General Land Use Plan
What is the GLUP?
The Olmsted County General Land Use Plan (GLUP) is the primary set of land use policies that defines the community’s vision of how, when, and where growth, redevelopment, and preservation should occur throughout the county. It provides a framework for consistent, organized, and informed decision-making by:
- Identifying the interests that the community considers important to the “health, safety, and welfare” of the county.
- Resolving competing land use claims.
- Making the most of limited fiscal resources.
The GLUP is the foundation for Olmsted County and township zoning, subdivision, and related ordinances. It guides investment in public facilities and services. Successful implementation of this plan results in the wise use of land and resources available to the community.
