The Olmsted County Planning Department administers zoning, building, well and septic for various areas of Olmsted County but not the entire county. For planning/building jurisdiction information, please visit the Jurisdiction Checker to determine who to contact for permitting administration.

The Planning department provides a comprehensive approach to all phases of the planning and community development process.​ Services include:  

  • Opportunities for quality affordable housing.  
  • Safe water supply and sewage treatment.  
  • Safe and sound building structures.  
  • Orderly development with adequate infrastructure.  
  • Environmental protection.
