Individual Arrested for 3rd Degree Murder
On Friday, January 19, 2024, the Olmsted County Sheriff's Office (OCSO) arrested 43-year-old Shannon Brown of Stewartville, MN, for the charge of 3rd Degree Murder. This is after OCSO investigated a fatal overdose that occurred in October 2023.
On October 21, 2023, at approximately 8:47 AM, Olmsted County Sheriff's Deputies responded to reports of a deceased person at a residence near Pleasant Grove, MN, in Olmsted County. Deputies arrived and spoke with the reporting party, Shannon Brown, who showed where the deceased Victim was found. The Victim was later identified as Michael Janvrin, a 45-year-old man from Stewartville. Brown reported that she had been with Janvrin at the residence around 3:00 AM on October 21 when he suddenly collapsed. Brown did not call 911 but left for her residence around 3:30 AM. Brown returned later in the morning with two juveniles and called 911. Deputies believed the death was suspicious and requested an investigation.
An investigation ensued, identifying several pieces of evidence. A search warrant was executed at Brown's residence, where a substance was located that tested positive for the presence of Fentanyl. In a statement given by Brown, she admitted to taking a "mystery" powder over to the deceased's residence, where both she and Janvrin used it.
An autopsy was performed by the Southeast Regional Medical Examiner's Office. The Minnesota Cause of Death report indicates the cause of Janvrin's death was the toxic effects of Fentanyl and methamphetamine.
Due to the excellent work of Olmsted County Deputies and Investigators, an offender is held accountable for harmful substance distribution to members of our community. And we are continuing to take these substances off the streets. Finally, OCSO wants to extend its continued condolences to friends and family of Mr. Janvrin.
