Media Release: Byron High School Incident
On December 17, 2024, at approximately 4 p.m., the Olmsted County Sheriff's Office was called to Byron High School to assist with suspicious substances found in a juvenile student’s locker. The Sheriff's Office consulted with the Minnesota Duty Officer, Byron Fire Department, and Bloomington Bomb Squad. It was determined that there were no safety concerns, and the suspicious substances could be safely removed. As a further precautionary measure, Olmsted County explosive detection K9s were requested to conduct a security sweep of the building. Sheriff's Office staff were with the juvenile subject involved and their guardian throughout the incident, who were completely cooperative. The Sheriff's Office takes all incidents of this nature seriously and will act with the public's safety in mind. The investigation of this case is ongoing, and we will be working with the school district to ensure all issues are addressed accordingly.
