Sudden Death of Olmsted County Detention Deputy
The Olmsted County Sheriff’s Office is deeply saddened to inform our communities that a Detention Deputy from the Adult Detention Center suddenly passed away while on duty at the Adult Detention Center.
We extend our heartfelt thoughts and prayers in this difficult time and join with his family and friends to honor and remember the service and sacrifice of Deputy Mark Edward Anderson, badge #1743.
He was assigned to the Program Division of the Adult Detention Center and was known for his diligence, patience, and ability to talk to anyone during his 11-year career with the Adult Detention Center.
Deputy Anderson began his career with the Sheriff’s Office on March 1st, 2010. Prior to that he began his career with Olmsted County on November 14th, 1995. Most of his time was as a Counselor with the former Many Rivers Juvenile Detention Center until transferring to the Sheriff’s Office’s Adult Detention Center.
Our Detention Deputy was found in the male locker room by his partner deputy at approximately 09:30 AM on Thursday, April 15th, 2021.
Lifesaving measures were immediately initiated by Adult Detention Center Staff, MEnD Correctional Care staff, the Rochester Fire Department, and Mayo Clinic Ambulance Service.
Deputy Anderson was transported to St. Mary’s Hospital Emergency Room where he was pronounced deceased. At this time, we believe this to be a medical related event.
While the family and staff of the Olmsted County Sheriff’s Office is heavily grieving for the loss of our beloved friend and co-worker, we ask for your understanding, your patience, and your prayers.
More information will be released in the next few days.
