LGBTQIA+ resources now on CredibleMind
A new hub for LGBTQIA+ resources is now available on Olmsted County’s CredibleMind platform. This hub is a one-stop shop where LGBTQIA+ residents, their families, and others in the community can find helpful, safe, and inclusive resources. The goal is to streamline access to healthcare and other essential services, reducing the health disparities that LGBTQIA+ individuals face in the community.
A recent study found that LGBTQIA+ people in Olmsted County experience more barriers in getting healthcare than other people. It showed that LGBTQIA+ residents are more likely to:
- Not have a personal doctor or healthcare provider (29% vs. 14% for other residents).
- Not have health insurance (20% vs. 3%).
- Delay getting medical care (31% vs. 14%), dental care (39% vs. 20%), and mental health care (29% vs. 10%).
To learn more about these challenges, Olmsted County worked with a group called Culture of Health by DESIGN. Local LGBTQIA+ community members explained the issues they face and shared ideas for making healthcare better and more accessible.
Before this new hub of LGBTQIA+ resources became available on CredibleMind, there was no single place for residents in our area to find LGBTQIA+ resources. Instead, people often had to ask others, search online forums, or spend a lot of time on the internet. This could be hard and frustrating. The new CredibleMind resource hub simplifies the search by providing free, easy access to a wide range of resources, including hotlines, social organizations, and support groups. The hub also features local Olmsted County services, such as housing transition options, ensuring LGBTQIA+ residents can find support where they live. Local leaders and LGBTQIA+ community members played a key role in developing this hub, ensuring it meets the specific needs of the community.
Whether it’s finding LGBTQIA+ healthcare providers, connecting with local support groups, or exploring housing options, this resource hub aims to be a comprehensive, accessible tool for those seeking help and support.
