New video! Protecting your child - the importance of blood lead testing

Community safety and well-being is one of Olmsted County’s strategic priorities. An example of this work is raising awareness about the importance of early blood lead screening for children. Lead exposure can have serious impacts on a child’s development, and it’s vital that children are tested at 12 months and 24 months to ensure their health and safety.
Our new video – Protecting your child - the importance of blood lead testing – emphasizes the importance of testing and encourages parents and caregivers to ask their healthcare provider about screening their children. Early detection through a simple blood test helps ensure children can access necessary care and intervention if lead exposure is detected.
This video features the following:
- An Olmsted County resident’s story on getting their child tested for lead exposure.
- Why lead screening is crucial for the healthy development of children.
- The role of health care providers in offering lead tests and supporting families in the process.
We encourage you to watch this video and talk to your child’s healthcare provider about scheduling a blood lead test at your next well-child visit. Taking this step early can help protect your child’s health.
