Olmsted County Government Center construction progress updates
Renovation work continues on the fourth and fifth floors of the Olmsted County Government Center. This is part of Olmsted County’s long-term strategy to enhance and renovate specific county government facilities to accommodate our community’s growing justice space needs.
In September 2022, Olmsted County Court Administration relocated from the fifth floor of the Government Center to a newly renovated space on the fourth floor of the building. This move allowed renovations to begin on the east side of the fifth floor. Construction of a courtroom that can accommodate felony cases and a jury assembly room is expected to be complete in spring 2023.
“We look forward to the renovations to add a large courtroom, a jury assembly room, and a jury deliberation room on the fifth floor. The courts will be better able to conduct multiple jury trials simultaneously while also making it a much more positive and comfortable experience for our jurors,” said Olmsted County Court Administrator Hans Holland.
In December 2021, Dodge-Fillmore-Olmsted County (DFO) Community Corrections temporarily relocated from the fourth floor of the Government Center to the Annex Building across the street from the Government Center, so renovation work on the fourth floor could begin. Corrections employees were projected to move back to the fourth floor this month, but product shipping delays have pushed the move-in date to January 2023.
“We have experienced some delays in the project due to supply chain challenges. However, we are making sure we’re taking advantage of the time to provide for a fully functional space when the move happens while maintaining the original budget,” said Olmsted County Facilities and Building Operations Director Mathew Miller.
The work of DFO Community Corrections will continue as usual.
“Since the beginning of the year during construction, Corrections has continued to provide quality services to our clients despite being temporarily displaced,” said DFO Community Corrections Director Nikki Niles. “That priority will not change despite the delayed move back to the Government Center. We look forward to our newly renovated space and are excited to welcome our clients and staff upon completion of the project.”
