James Johnson named deputy administrator of Olmsted County’s Administrative Services division
March 4, 2025
Olmsted County Division Administrator of Health, Housing, and Human Services (HHH) James Johnson is continuing his career with Olmsted County as deputy administrator for the county’s Administrative Services division (departments in this division include Facilities and Building Operations; Human Resources; Information Technology Services; and Policy, Analysis, and Communications).
Johnson will report to Olmsted County Administrator Travis Gransee and begin his new role on March 10, 2025.
As deputy administrator of Administrative Services, Johnson will:
- Continue to be a member of the Olmsted County Executive Management team.
- Work closely with the deputy administrators of the HHH and Physical Development divisions.
- Support and guide the work of all the departments in the Administrative Services division.
Johnson had been serving as division administrator for Olmsted County’s HHH division since 2022. Prior to that, he held roles in Community Corrections as a program manager and probation officer. Johnson began working at Olmsted County in the Sheriff’s Office and held detention deputy, corporal, and sergeant roles. Prior to joining Olmsted County, Johnson worked in telecommunications for five years. He served in the United States Air Force and Army National Guard.
“James is a dedicated public servant with many years of leadership experience in county government, as an elected school board member, and through his military service,” said Gransee. “He has a passion for enhancing our community and our government organization.”
"I’m honored to step into the role of deputy administrator for Administrative Services,” noted Johnson. “Olmsted County is an exceptional organization, and I look forward to continuing to support employees and the vital services we provide the community."
Johnson’s move creates a division administrator vacancy in Health, Housing, and Human Services. That position will be posted and filled as soon as possible.
