On November 29, 2020, at approximately 5:46 p.m., Olmsted County deputies, Byron (MN) Fire/First Responders, Mayo Clinic Ambulance, and Mayo Clinic’s helicopter, Mayo One, responded to a residence in the 3200 block of Grand View Lane Southwest in Salem Township of Olmsted County.

Emergency personnel was dispatched to a dog bite incident where an 18-month old, male child, had been bitten by a 10-year old Black Lab/German Shepard mix dog. The child suffered injuries to the back of his head and was unconscious and possibly had stopped breathing at one point. The child did suffer significant blood loss from the bite.

At this time, the details of the incident are not known as the official report has not been filed. The incident occurred in the residence where the 18-month old and his parents are residing. The dog is owned by a close family relative and the owner of the dog has made the decision to have the animal euthanized. At this time, out of concern for the family’s privacy, the identities of those involved will not be released.

Additionally, the medical condition of the child is unknown, and it is at the discretion of the child’s parents to determine when, and if, that information will be released.

The members of the Olmsted County Sheriff’s Office, and on behalf of the emergency personnel that responded, we send our prayers to the family involved in this traumatic and difficult time.
