Small business and non-profit grant recipients selected as part of Olmsted County/State of Minnesota grant program

In January 2021, the Olmsted County Board of Commissioners announced it was allocating a total of $3,388,968 in economic relief funds to small businesses and non-profits affected by COVID-19 as part of the State of Minnesota County Relief Funding Program. 

  • $2,711,174 grant program for small businesses and food/beverage-serving 501(c)(8) and 501(c)(19) non-profits, administered by Rochester Area Economic Development, Inc. (RAEDI). 
  • $677,794 grant program for 501(c)(3) non-profits administered by the Rochester Area Foundation (RAF).

After RAEDI and RAF concluded their relief programs for small businesses and non-profits, it was determined that the RAEDI program was oversubscribed and the RAF program was undersubscribed. Olmsted County decided to reallocate $133,365.63 in funds from the non-profit program to the small business program as well as $37,112.12 from additional county reserves. This resulted in an increase in the small business program funding to $2,881,651.75 and a decrease in the non-profit program funding to $544,428.37.

Recipients of Olmsted County/State of Minnesota small business relief grants

A total of 169 small businesses met the eligibility criteria and were chosen as grant recipients. Of the businesses receiving awards: 

  • 74 are restaurants, bars, or other places of public accommodation. 
  • 12 are indoor event companies or entertainment venues. 
  • 10 are gyms, fitness centers, or other indoor or outdoor exercise facilities.
  • 4 are organized sports (adult and youth). 
  • 2 are outdoor events or entertainment venues (non-drive-in).
  • 67 are classified as “other.”

Additionally, of these businesses 8 are veteran-owned (5%), 44 are women-owned (26%), and 51 are minority-owned (30%).
