Rich Carlson retires from the ADC
On September 5, 2024, Detention Deputy Rich Carlson worked his last shift in the ADC after over 30 years of service.
Rich started in the ADC in 1994, shortly after the new Direct Supervision jail opened in Olmsted County. Rich was one of many who learned a new philosophy of running the jail that leads to a safer environment for all.
During Rich’s 30 years, he was a field training officer (FTO). Rich helped train countless new hires into his last year of service.
Rich also worked in laterals, including as a Court Security Deputy and a Work Release Deputy. In addition, Rich served on the steering committee for several years, working with others to improve our business practices.
We wish Rich luck on this new, exciting chapter in his life.
Domestic violence awareness
Captain Chris Wallace
The month of October was Domestic Violence Awareness Month. Domestic Violence crimes and warrants related to domestic violence crimes are always a priority for our office, but in observation of Domestic Violence Awareness Month, we focused more of our efforts on warrants related to domestic violence. During the last month, the Sheriff’s Office made 47 warrant arrests; 13 of the arrests were on subjects whose charges were related to domestic violence. Of those 13 arrests, eight were felony warrant arrests. In 2023, we had 95 domestic-related calls and 38 Order for Protection (OFP), Harassment Restraining Order (HRO), or Domestic Abuse No Contact Order (DANCO) Violation calls. So far in 2024, we have had 81 domestic-related calls and 37 Order for Protection (OFP), Harassment Restraining Order (HRO), or Domestic Abuse No Contact Order (DANCO) Violation calls.
