Theft from Vehicle Prevention Tips

  • Always lock your vehicle and close your windows.
  • Never leave valuables in your vehicle.
    • Some examples to consider: 
      • Phone
      • Purse or wallet
      • Cash
      • Laptop or tablet
      • Other electronics
      • Backpack or briefcase 
      • Guns
  • If you must leave valuable personal property in your vehicle, ensure it is out of view.
  • When able, park in locations visible to pedestrian and vehicle traffic.
  • At night, park in well-lit areas whenever possible.
  • Be extra cautious when parking at places like movie theaters, gyms, sporting events, and places of worship, which make it easier for thieves to predict how long you will be away from your vehicle.
  • Always watch for suspicious persons. If you see something, say something. Call 911 and report it.
    • When reporting suspicious activity, remember to be as specific as possible. If it is safe to do so, try to gather important information about the suspicious person:
      • What do they look like?
      • What are they wearing?
      • What vehicle are they driving?
      • What direction were they headed?
